One of downtown West Palm Beach’s most recognizable burger joints is firing up the grill for the last time.
Grease Burger Bar announced it will permanently close on Friday, July 17, ending a 17-year run on Clematis Street that turned it into a local institution for oversized burgers, craft beer and game-day crowds.
The restaurant broke the news in a heartfelt social media post, inviting customers to stop by during its final week to “raise a glass, share a laugh” and enjoy one last meal. Owners did not provide a reason for the closure.
Since opening in January 2009 at 213 Clematis St., @greasewpb built a loyal following with its signature 10-ounce burgers, ground in-house from a blend of dry-aged sirloin, chuck and brisket. Diners could pile on inventive toppings or upgrade to an even larger 12-ounce patty for an extra-indulgent feast.
Among its most famous creations was The Grease Beast, a towering burger that earned national attention with a feature on the Travel Channel’s Food Paradise.
Beyond the burgers, Grease became a favorite gathering place thanks to its industrial-style interior, long oak bar, fireplace, more than 120 craft beers and dozens of TVs showing every major sporting event.
To toast its final days, the restaurant is offering 50% off all alcohol through its last call on July 17.
For many longtime residents, Grease wasn’t just another burger spot — it was a Clematis Street landmark where birthdays were celebrated, games were watched and late-night cravings were satisfied.
Now, after nearly two decades of serving towering burgers and cold beer just steps from the waterfront, one of West Palm Beach’s best-known restaurants is preparing to serve its final customer.
