Kimberly Guilfoyle’s diplomatic career appears to be over.
The White House has asked the U.S. ambassador to Greece to resign amid mounting allegations involving her finances, treatment of embassy employees and ties to foreign business interests.
“We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well,” White House press secretary Katie Zacharia announced Tuesday.
The announcement came just 24 hours after President Donald Trump publicly signaled that Guilfoyle, once engaged to his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was on thin ice.
“Well, we’re looking at it,” Trump told reporters Monday when asked about firing her. “We’re not happy.”
A $100,000 Credit Card Bill
Guilfoyle’s troubles intensified after The Wall Street Journal reported that she asked Trump donor Eric Deters to cover a whopping $100,000 American Express bill shortly before her July 2025 Senate confirmation hearing.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported that the State Department’s inspector general was investigating allegations involving her treatment of embassy staff, private travel, gifts and foreign business relationships.
Sources described a hostile workplace, alleging Guilfoyle threatened employees with termination and demoted security personnel over minor incidents.
One officer reportedly landed in hot water after failing to respond to a 4 a.m. request for ice during Guilfoyle’s vacation in Mykonos.
The inspector general’s office has neither confirmed nor denied an investigation. Guilfoyle’s attorney, Jesse Binnall, dismissed suggestions of wrongdoing as unsupported.
From Trump Family Insider to Diplomatic Exit
Guilfoyle and Donald Trump Jr. ended their four-year engagement in December 2024, the same month Trump nominated her for the Greece post.
Trump Jr. has since married Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson in May 2026.
Guilfoyle was also previously married to Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom from 2001 to 2006, when he was San Francisco’s mayor.
For Guilfoyle, a once-prominent fixture in Trump’s inner circle, the White House’s request marks a stunning political reversal.
