“The President’s Own” Marine Band to Perform Free Concert at Kravis Center

A stirring American tradition is coming to West Palm Beach this fall.

“The President’s Own” United States Marine Band will perform a free concert at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, October 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Dreyfoos Hall.

The performance is part of the Marine Band’s 30-day National Concert Tour, which will bring 27 concerts to communities across Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama.

Under the direction of Lt. Col. Ryan Nowlin, the program will honor the spirit of legendary bandleader John Philip Sousa, who established the touring tradition in 1891. Audiences can expect a sweeping celebration of American music featuring Sousa marches, traditional band repertoire, contemporary works, vocal and instrumental solos, and a patriotic salute to the Armed Forces.

“We are incredibly excited to continue the tradition of our national concert tour,” Nowlin said. “Musicians of the band are more eager than ever to share their musical talents with audiences live and in person on this year’s tour.”

Founded in 1798, the Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. It has performed for every president since John Adams and became known as “The President’s Own” during the administration of Thomas Jefferson.

For more than a century, its national tours have carried the pageantry and musical tradition of the White House beyond Washington, offering generations of Americans the opportunity to experience one of the country’s most distinguished ensembles.

The concert is free, but tickets are required. Reservations open September 14 at 10 a.m. through kravis.org, by calling 561-832-7469 or at the Kravis Center Box Office, open Monday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

The Kravis Center is located at 701 Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach.
