A bomb threat triggered a major law enforcement response Thursday morning, temporarily shutting down Interstate 95 exits to President Donald J. Trump International Airport before authorities determined the threat was unfounded.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said the threat was reported around 7:13 a.m., prompting deputies to sweep the airport and surrounding area for explosives and suspicious packages.
Officials stressed the caller did not specifically mention either President Donald J. Trump International Airport or its former name, Palm Beach International Airport. The sheriff’s office also said the threat made no reference to President Trump.
As a precaution, deputies closed I-95 exits leading to the airport while bomb squads searched the area. Passengers were not evacuated, flights continued operating normally, and aircraft were not diverted.
After an extensive search turned up nothing suspicious, authorities reopened the exits around 9 a.m.
By early Thursday afternoon, investigators had not identified or arrested a suspect.
An airport spokesperson declined to comment on the incident, referring all questions to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The airport, which was recently renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport, resumed normal operations after authorities gave the all-clear. Officials have not said whether the threat was made by phone or in person, and investigators have not indicated whether it was connected to the airport’s recent name change.
